KAHHAL 1871

Craft, Culture & Intergenerational Memory

KAHHAL 1871 is Egypt’s oldest rug atelier and a living archive of intergenerational craft, rooted in over 150 years of heritage. Formerly known as El Kahhal Carpets, the brand underwent a transformative renaissance—blending timeless craftsmanship with a contemporary cultural language.

Co-led by siblings Mohamed and Bosaina El Kahhal, the brand’s evolution is driven by the synergy of Mohamed’s operational vision and Bosaina’s creative direction and mythic storytelling. Together, they repositioned KAHHAL 1871 as a luxury design house, bridging ancestral legacy with modern aesthetics.

Through editorial features in Vogue, Interior Design USA, and Architectural Digest Middle East’s Visionaries Issue, alongside landmark exhibitions at Townhouse Gallery, Cinema Radio ("Outloud"), and Art D’Égypte ("153 to Eternity"), the atelier re-emerged as a leader in both the design and cultural landscapes.

KAHHAL 1871’s legacy now extends into the world’s most iconic hospitality destinations—supplying bespoke rugs to partners such as Four Seasons, Six Senses, Kempinski, and Waldorf Astoria

Its social mission—spotlighted by the Tetlaf Feeh Harir initiative, developed in partnership with Egypt’s presidency and H.E. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi—revived Egypt’s endangered rug-weaving craft through rural training and artisan support programs.

More than a brand, KAHHAL 1871 is a collaborative legacy—bridging bloodline, beauty, and futurism in art and design.

KAHHAL 1871 featured in Architectural Digest and beyond.
